A Letter from Soror President
3 October 2009
Sorors,
What a great day for the sisters of Oak Ridge Alumnae Chapter!
Today we saw many smiles, heard much laughter, and witnessed a few tears. We started with warm, long-lasting wishes for Soror Zachary on her upcoming marriage; to the meaning of sisterhood; to a scrumptious lunch; on to "welcoming" Soror Rupert into Delta (you had to be there); congratulating our newest Delta Dear, Soror Steward; to honoring Sorors Beidleman and Collins for 25 years of Delta service; and the highlight of the day, honoring Soror Mac for 50 years of Delta service. After being serenaded by Soror Lewis with a “throw-back” version of the Sweetheart song, Soror Mac’s walk down the red carpet was priceless. She demonstrated that you can not go through life alone, by asking Sorors to walk with her. After being presented with her 50-year pin, 50-year plaque, and the Founders crystal; she shared a few words of wisdom. Then she "stepped if off" back down the red carpet. As I said, priceless. I can’t wait to see the pictures. They should tell the story better than me. I am summing it up as an enjoyable day for all.
It was definitely good seeing so many Sorors today. For those of you that were not able to attend - - you missed it. But, all is not lost - - our next celebration will be December 5, for our “Sisterhood Christmas in the Smokies.” More information to come.
Thank you so much to the committee, Sorors Lewis, Steward, Beidleman and Hamilton. It is indeed an honor to serve as the President of Oak Ridge Alumnae Chapter.

These 15 dedicated, talented women envisioned a need to establish a community service organization
in the Oak Ridge community. After a year of hard work and commitment, their efforts became a
reality. The torch of the 703rd Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. was ignited in the
Oak Ridge community, “The City Behind the Gates.” The newly formed chapter delved wholeheartedly
into various community activities, making DELTA a force to be reckoned with in Oak Ridge, Tennessee.
