The Oak Ridge Alumnae Chapter supports the

Children's Museum of Oak Ridge

For over 10 years, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. has served the museum.  The sorority donated a curio cabinet with “All of God’s Children” figurines, provides weekly volunteer and clerical support, and serves on the Board of Directors.  

The Children's Museum observed its 35th birthday on 28 March 2008.  Many volunteers, youth advisors, and dignitaries were there to celebrate.  A light dinner and birthday cake were served.  Soror McIntyre was recognized for her contribution as Board Member (2005 - present) and especially for her active service to the children of the museum.  Click here for article.

One highlight for us was that Mr. Ed Wescott, the world-renowned Oak Ridge photographer posed for a picture with us -- his son took the pictures with his camera and Soror Sheard's.  The Ed Wescott exhibit is shown below.

Children's Museum of Oak Ridge   was conceived in 1973 as a Girl Scout project. It was formally opened on March 11, 1973 in the library of the former Jefferson Junior High School in 2,000 square feet of space and later moved to the former Highland View Elementary School in January 1974. The museum purchased the building and land from the city of Oak Ridge in 1983 and now operates in 54,000 square feet with exhibits, classes and programs for all ages.
